What do I need to do to join?

To join us at one of our outreaches you simply need to make contact with us and inform us of your intention to assist. We will then advise on criteria, dates and the different ways which you can help.

We can be reached at info@marotholioutreach.org.za, or alternatively but less preferred an inbox on our Instagram page @_marotholi_.

What criteria are used to select volunteers?

ANYBODY is eligible to volunteer with us, provided the intention is pure and the objective is in line with our vision of reducing the number of malnourished children in South Africa. Based on a volunteer’s education and skills we will place you where you will be of most use on the day.

We will exclude anybody with any prejudice or discrimination against those we seek to help, or in any way endangers others as outlined in our code of conduct. Our threshold for any untoward attitude or behavior is low.

What kind of donations do you accept?

We accept monetary donations as well as gently worn or new clothes for children under the age of 5 years.

Is the outreach operational in other provinces?

Marotholi is currently a Gauteng based outreach. We are looking to expand in future to reach other areas within the province and eventually other provinces.

What does “Marotholi” mean?

Marotholi is a Southern Sotho word which means droplets of water, or rain drops. For us it is a metaphor of how we see ourselves in that we would like to provide nourishment through education or nutrition that helps children thrive.

How often do the outreaches occur?

We currently have an outreach every 6 weeks, and the dates are predetermined at the beginning of the year. However, this can change if a situation arises that requires flexibility e.g. a Corona virus pandemic.

What are scrubs and how can I get a pair?

Scrubs are the sanitary clothing worn by surgeons, nurses, physicians and other workers involved in patient care in hospitals. TANC Scrubs is a company that supplies medical clothing that has kindly offered to donate R100 for each set of scrubs bought with the Marotholi logo attached. Anybody may buy them but they are generally worn by health care workers in a hospital setting. TANC scrubs can be bought at www.tanc.co.za and request Marotholi Outreach embroidery.

Is there a uniform or specified attire for outreach days?

We try to look neat and casual on the outreach day. We would prefer our volunteers wear a Marotholi T-shirt but anything decent will do. The T-shirts are for sale and all proceeds go towards the outreach.
