Information
We have designed a nutritional screening programme for children as well as an educational programme for caregivers from various disadvantaged communities. These are applied at a Wellness Day to be held four weekly on a Saturday morning at the respective local community centre. We will use the services of medical professionals who will assist on a voluntary basis.
We start each outreach session with a health talk for parents and caregivers. We educate them on appropriate feeding practices for children under 5 years old. We then weigh and measure children and interpret each child under 5 years old’s anthropometrics using World Health Organisation Growth Standards charts. Children with acute malnutrition or with growth faltering are then seen by our on-site dieticians for nutritional rehabilitation. Each caregiver receives further nutritional education while being seen by the screening clinician. Any child with danger signs or who is acutely ill is referred to the local clinic for further assessment and management. When available, children with growth faltering or malnutrition are given a nutritional food pack to assist them in their rehabilitation.
